That's cool; however I wonder why they're doing it on SxDx rather then old school punk rock in general? I mean its great learning about the history of the band, however it?s just like any other band with up's and downs and Mike really doesn't know how to do anything else so he stuck it out through the years. I point is that if the professor is a fan that?s cool; however social D is not "the last old school punk band" what about TSOL and Bad Religion I can go on and on.. It looks like this professor is doing this project on personal preference rather then actual facts which is alright I guess, I graduated college around 5 years ago and I just see this class is like a class on tupac its cool for the fans and a maybe a fun class but all in all pointless... Again it sounds like a cool class; short because there?s not much to say about the subject but still cool

I think there taking this Social D explosion WAY to far. Its getting FUCKING stupid!!!!! I guess next where gonna see a Mike Ness action figure?

big ballz, i think your missing the point entirely. this isnt a music history class at all. this is a class on qualitative/interpretive research methods. Seems like the professor wanted to use something different and unique as a study. She could have focused on just about anything for this class.....Star trek conventions, dog trainers, spelling bee contestants, suspension bridge architects, or deep fat frying techniques. This class requires focusing on something very specific and why not use something that her Generation-X students would enjoy and appreciate.

"The idea was to take a significant cultural artifact, something from everyday life, and apply qualitative research methods in a systematic way in order to understand the phenomenon in its total context,? said Nadesan. ?Our goal is to publish an integrated document that brings together the classic communication elements?source, message, receiver and content?and have some fun doing it.?

I would love to spend a whole semester discussing the lyrics to many a band or artist (ie: Lou Reed, Sublime...well, kinda R rated but FULL of imagery). There was an actual "Professor of Rock and Roll" at UCSD in La Jolla. We saw him and one of his buddies trying to get into a show at Che Cafe and he was pretty clueless but had nice guns! Just trying to meet chicks I guess!
